EM-TECH Seminars

For the past few weeks our class had conducted seminars about the emerging technologies nowadays. Every group was assigned to organized a seminar and invite a speaker that will have a take about regarding an emerging technology. Every week, two groups will have to present the seminar that they have organized and let the class and other people attend it. 

For the first week, the first two groups presented a seminar regarding the new Windows Phone 7 and Windows 8 which is kind of interesting since this two are latest release of Microsoft. The seminar kind of let us know what are the features and what are the things that we should about the new products of Microsoft and if we should use it or not. It kind of help also in our career choice because it is mentioned in the seminar that there is a need of some developers or some people who is interested to work on and build applications for the Windows Phone since now a lot of people are working on it right now.

 For the second week, the first group had presented a seminar regarding Unit Testing, UI Testing and Test-Driven Development in Visual Studio 2012 and the second group had presented about Windows Azure. The first seminar talks about how to test systems or programs that you made and this help us a lot because it is related to what we are doing and what we will do when we already have a work. It is one of the possible jobs that we will pursue if ever we really landed on an IT related career that is why the first talk was really necessary for us IT students. For the second talk, Windows Azure talks about cloud computing, cloud computing is one of the emerging technologies nowadays that most companies are using. It is very important for us to know about this since this is a technology that will most likely to be used in the coming years by most of us. It is very good that a group have contacted a person who will talk about some things about this technology because it will really help us to develop and know more about the technologies that we will be encountering when we already experiencing or we are already on the real world.

For the last week of the seminar, my group is assigned to present the seminar that we have organized and the seminar was all about Social Media as a Consulting Career. For our seminar, I’m not being biased but I think the seminar really talks about an option on what career we should pursue because the speaker talked about one the career option that an IT graduate can pursue after he/she graduated. One thing good about this is that, you can work on your own in this career or you can work for a company. And for the last seminar, it talks about Gas monitoring for Safety Systems, the last seminar was kind of not related to our course but still it is an emerging technology and it also belongs to the possible career that we could pursue on since it also talks about some stuff that is also related to the IT field. It is also good since almost all of the seminars talked about things related to IT and this seminar showed a different view of how we could pursue IT.

With all the seminars conducted for the past few weeks, I am very satisfied that all of the groups have presented a good topic and had organized the seminars very well. I learned a lot from all the seminars and hopefully I can use all the things that I’ve learn to the career that I will pursue after I graduated.

Android Applications Review

This blog post is a review on the best and worst android applications that I have played or used. But to tell the truth I still didn't even try to play or use any android applications since I am not an android user so I've researched on the internet what are the android applications out there who is also available in other OS. :)

Best Android Applications:

1. Angry Birds

Well, as we all know this application is very famous nowadays. As I've tried it other OS it is indeed very fun to play. The interface is very good and the player will really enjoy as it make you think how you will eliminate all the enemies. The game also has different level in which you will be challenge to think of strategies in order to surpassed that specific level. It's also good as it include some story line along with the game itself. 

2. Fruit Ninja 

The second game application in android that I think is the best is the game that is called Fruit Ninja. Fruit Ninja is also a popular game in which you will have to slice the fruits by sliding your finger in the screen. This application is really enjoyable for me as it makes me alert that I have to slice the fruit before it falls down and also I have to be alert also to not slice the bomb that is suddenly appearing so that I will not lose. Though it is pretty simple in a way, it is really enjoyable as it makes me want to slice the fruits to earn a high score. In terms of its interface it also good because it depicts the actual looks of the fruits as you slice it. All in all, Fruit Ninja is one of the best games that I think because of the factors that I've said. 

3. Tap Tap Revenge 4

The third application that I think is the best is the Tap Tap Revenge 4. Tap Tap Revenge 4 is a music game application in which you will tap a certain button that match with the beat of the music that is playing. It is very enjoyable because you can play with the popular songs nowadays. With this application, you can also listen to the song that you like while you are playing with it. At the end of the song, you will know your score and you can post it in the online leader board in which the other players around the world can see it. You can also play with other players around the world or even with your friends that are also using the application. 

Worst Android Applications:

1. Coin Dozer

For the worst game application that I've seen, the first one is the Coin Dozer. Coin Dozer is like the game that we often see in arcades. The game is kind of well exciting at first as you will think that you can play an arcade game in the phone but as time goes by it will become really boring for the player to play because the coins are limited and it is not that easy to get back the coins that you have drop. The interface is also simple and the features of the application is also limited. As time goes by or as you played this game often you will realized that you are just doing the same thing all over again.

2.  Paper Toss

The second one that I think is the worst Paper Toss. Paper Toss is a game where in you will have to toss the paper to the trash can. At first I find it enjoyable but like Coin Dozer as time goes by it bores the player because you will only do the same thing again. Though it also has a high score the way it is played is making the players bored as you will think that you will only have to toss a paper. This application as I can see is not really useful to the user. 

3. Dice Roll 

The last application that I think is one of the worst application that I have seen in the internet is the application named Dice Roll. Well, as I can see it not really useful to the user because you will only shake the phone and you will gain nothing. The interface is also simple as you will only see the dice rolling because that is the only feature of the application. The application is only useful when the user got really nothing to do but as the user play it again and again he/she will get bored easily as the user will only see the total number of dots in the dice.
